Meta Platforms Buys Luxexcel to Develop Smart Glasses
The latest news from Meta Platforms smart glasses. This company has just bought Luxexcel in the Netherlands. This is thought to strengthen AR technology.

New news at the end of 2022 came from Meta Platforms. They recently purchased Luxexcel, a smart glasses company based in the Netherlands. According to information, this is thought to strengthen augmented reality (AR) technology.
Luxexcel had made lenses for glasses prescribed by doctors when it was founded in 2009. However, recently, they have expanded into making smart lenses that are integrated with technology such as LCD and holograms.
Previously, in September 2021, Mark Zuckerberg collaborated with Ray-Ban, a smart glasses company with technology. At that time, Ray-Ban made an invitation to register so that people would not miss out when the product was ready to be launched.
Facebook's first smart glasses were released on September 9, 2021. These glasses can be used to listen to music, take calls, take photos and short videos, and share them across Facebook services with companion apps.
This item was produced in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, Ray-Ban's parent company. Quoting Reuters, the price of Facebook's first glasses starts at 299 US dollars or around Rp. 4.26 million.
tafansa. I quoted TechCrunch on (31/12) regarding Meta buying Luxexcel. However, the details of the acquisition of these two companies are not yet known.
Meta admitted that he was happy with the Luxexcel team joining to deepen the partnership between them.
According to news circulating, the two of them have worked together on Project Aria, a development of augmented reality technology.
According to Mark Zuckerberg's statement in 2021, smart glasses will be an important part of building the next computing platform.
He added that the glasses will not capture content and store it in the Facebook View application to personalize ads, even though this product can record photos and short videos.
Mark also ensures that users are ad-free when using these glasses. Additionally, there is an optional virtual assistant feature. So photos and videos can be taken hands-free with voice commands.
"The LED light on the glasses will appear when the camera is on. "So that other people are aware that someone is taking photos or videos with those glasses," said Mark.
"There are also guidelines to avoid illegal actions such as harassment or capturing sensitive information such as PIN codes. "So these glasses must be turned off in private rooms," he added.
Facebook has invested a lot, and it will take 5-10 years to launch these smart glasses.
Various efforts have been made, starting from virtual and augmented reality, developing hardware such as the Oculus VR headset to working on bracelets or wristbands to control augmented reality glasses.
