The storm of massive layoffs is not over yet. Since the pandemic hit the entire world in early 2020, many companies have had difficulty dealing with economic turmoil in their business. As a result, thousands to millions of people in various countries lost their livelihoods.

This is also experienced by giant companies such as Amazon, Twitter and Vimeo. The three of them have greatly cut their workload, even in early 2023.

Starting with Amazon, more than 18,000 employees were laid off on January 18. tafansa.id quoted from the Variety report, most of the dismissed employees came from Amazon Stores and the People, Experience and Technology division.

The 18,000 employees laid off last fall represented about 1.2% of the company's roughly 1.5 million full- and part-time workers as of last September.

According to the New York Times, Amazon also laid off around 10,000 employees in November 2022.

Meanwhile, this social media company, Twitter reduced its employees again on January 8, 2023. Those affected came from the global content moderation team, especially units related to hate speech and harassment.

According to Reuters from a Bloomberg report, more than 12 employees lost their jobs at Twitter headquarters in Dublin, Ireland and Singapore.

Other teams that were forced to lose their jobs were the policy team on misinformation, global appeals and state-owned media. They did this on January 6.

Due to Elon Musk's cost reduction policy, Twitter also laid off approximately 3,700 people in November. Hundreds of people left the company after the action of the new owner of the company.

One month later, or in December 2022, Twitter was sued because the company disproportionately fired many female employees.

Another global company that laid off many of its employees is Vimeo. This video-sharing service reduced the number of full-time employees by 11% on January 4 local time.

This global layoff is difficult because Vimeo focuses more on economic uncertainty. This process is expected to be substantially completed by the end of the first quarter of 2023.

As of December 31, 2021, Vimeo had 1,219 full-time employees, and in July 2022, they laid off 6% of their employees. According to Vimeo, as CEO of Vimeo, Anjali sees a continued decline in her company's economy.

This can be seen in the third quarter of 2022 when Vimeo's net loss increased to 21.4 million US dollars.
